Business as usual for SABC

SABC TV building in Auckland Park

The SABC Board and Management have assured the public and its staff that it is business as usual. This is despite a proposed vote of no confidence in the SABC board by the Parliamentary Communications Portfolio Committee.

The new SABC board has been accused of failing to carry out its duties. This follows a leaked memorandum that accuses Group CEO Dali Mpofu of mismanagement.

Board Chairperson, Khanyisile Mkhonza, has defended the document saying it was based on her assessment of work at the SABC. It's been three weeks since the memorandum was issued and still Mpofu has not responded to the allegations. MP's wanted to know why.

"We know that you are under political pressure, we know that there are great battles going on in the ruling party but you don't use the procedures of this parliament to try to resolve those battles," says DA MP, Dene Smuts.

The ANC has denied that there is any political pressure on the public broadcaster.

"We take note of the motion ... but for us as the SABC we will continue working together," says Mkhonza.
