ANC members of the parliamentary committee which oversees the SABC have called for a vote of no confidence in the public broadcaster's board. The call has come after a hearing by the communications portfolio committee into a leaked memorandum in which the board chairperson, Kanyisiwe Mkonza, raised concerns about the management of the corporation under GCEO Dali Mpofu.
ANC member, Eric Kholwane, says the leakage of the confidential memorandum to the media and its contents indicate serious problems between the board and senior SABC management. "This board is not in a position to execute their fiduciary responsibility or duties and we therefore accordingly want to pass a vote of no confidence to this board," says Kholwane.
Meanwhile a Democratic Alliance (DA) member of the communications committee, Dene Smuts, has accused the ANC of abusing the parliamentary committee process.
