Pikoli will submit heads of arguments next month
|
March 25, 2008, 17:30
The Ginwala Commission of Inquiry is in the final stages of completing the probe into the Vusi Pikoli saga and has denied dragging its heels on the matter.
The public hearings scheduled for May will be the last phase before the commission compiles a report to be submitted to President Thabo Mbeki. The commission has promised a speedy enquiry but says the complexity of the matter has resulted in several hold-ups.
The Ginwala Commission was tasked with probing the suspension of the National Director of Public Prosecutions. Its terms of reference were to cover two areas: the breakdown of Pikoli's relationship with Justice Minister Bridgette Mabandla, and his fitness to hold office.
Both Pikoli and the minister have made written submissions. They will submit heads of arguments next month before going to the public hearings. Pikoli and the minister will not be taking the stand.
