Transport Minister Jeff Radebe says the Airports Company of South Africa's upgrading of the O.R Tambo International Airport is aimed at illustrating South Africa's preparedness to host the 2010 soccer World Cup. Radebe was launching Transport Month today, with the opening a new wing at the airport.
He says ACSA has spent about R3.5bn in upgrading the airport to accommodate wide-bodied aircraft. Radebe says this is part of South Africa's preparation for soccer’s showpiece.
“We are ready to host the most important soccer game in the world but also we are using this opportunity at OR Tambo international airport to launch the October transport month,” says Radebe. Transport month will highlight various projects ranging from rail to road to non-motorised transport.
