R100 million fraud is being investigated in the provincial department of agriculture

March 24, 2007, 17:15

Sibusiso Ndebele, the KwaZulu-Natal premier and Mandla Mchunu, the director-general, will hold a disciplinary hearing against two senior officials in the provincial department of agriculture and environmental affairs, a provincial government spokesperson said today.

This follows an audit investigation into allegations of mismanagement of funds involving over R100 million against Jabulani Mjwara, the head of that department and Petrus Mahlangu, its chief financial officer.

The disciplinary committee is expected to sit next week, said Mandla Msomi, the spokesperson. This follows the receipt last week of an audit report on alleged overspending in the department. - Sapa
