"Dutch re-examine attitudes"

The cold blooded murder on a famous Dutch filmmaker, Theo van Gogh, by a militant Muslim Moroccan last week shocked the Dutch society to the core.

The Dutch are re-examining their liberal values and openness towards foreigners. It is in this atmosphere that President Mbeki will bring his first official visit to the country next week. Internal security and international co-operation in fighting terrorism will no doubt be on the agenda.

The Netherlands is currently holds the chair of the European Union. Producer Freek Robinson spent the past week in the Netherlands and Belgium and reports on the issues and South Africa’s evolving relationship with the EU.
