Marine Poaching

This week Focus reveals the new secret weapon in the fight against marine poaching. The vessel is the fastest ever specially built for Marine and Coastal Management.  Together with four marine patrol boats acquired last year, for more than half a billion Rand, it’s sure to have an impact on the relentless poaching of South Africa’s marine resources.

But, the launch of the speed boat is caught up in red tape, patrol boats are experiencing technical problems and research time has been lost because of a dispute about overtime pay.  All the while continued poaching threatens the existence of legitimate businesses
