"Hectare after
hectare" |
|
10 years after the first democratic elections in South Africa, a Focus
team visits the Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces to find out what
progress has been made with land reform.
Producer Karin d’Orville and cameraman Ivan Oberholzer concentrate in
particular on land which new owners received as a result of
government’s restitution programme. |
|
 |
|
Zebediela is an example of how the Dept. of Land Affairs would like to
see its restitution programme succeed: new owners rely on the
financing and skills of strategic partners to make their farms
successful ventures.
But the Focus team also visits a tobacco farm and a pig farm which
cost government millions of Rands but which don’t produce anything at
the moment. The new owners have left.
Politicians get the opportunity to evaluate land reform in South
Africa so far and attorney dr. Philip du Toit talks about his
controversial book, The Great South African Land Scandal. |

sewerage running down the main street because of overflowing tanks.
