Who
was the mastermind behind the assassination of a top Mozambican
journalist? Could it be that no lesser person than the President’s
son is implicated in this gory killing? This week Special
Assignment investigates the alleged connection between
Mozambique’s political elite and organised crime. We ask the
question: How far does the rot go?
Eighteen months ago, Carlos
Cardoso was brutally assassinated in the streets of Maputo.
His only crime was the desire to
expose one of the biggest bank frauds in the history of
Mozambique.
In a trial that was broadcast on
national radio and television his killers were brought to
justice earlier this month. Or were they?
The killers who pulled the
trigger are sentenced to between 24 and 28 years in jail, but
are the men who ordered the assassination still free? And who
are the “Untouchables”, as they are commonly referred to on
the streets of Maputo?
Watch Special Assignment on
Tuesday to find out the story behind the story of the killing of
journalist Carlos Cardoso. “Mozambique on Trial” is directed
by Rehad Desai and filmed by Reggie Morobe.
