Singer Amy Winehouse spent the night in custody after being arrested on suspicion of assault, police said today. The 24-year-old handed herself in at a police station in central London yesterday to face questioning by detectives. It was not clear when she will be questioned.
A 38-year-old man said he was assaulted by a 24-year-old woman at 3.20am on Wednesday in north London, Scotland Yard said.
The Grammy Award-winning singer, whose increasingly troubled private life and battle against drug addiction has overshadowed her recording success, had agreed to attend the London police station, her spokesperson said in a statement.
Her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil (25), appeared in court yesterday charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice and inflicting grievous bodily harm. He denies the charges.
Winehouse is said to be worth an estimated 10 million pounds ($19.7 million) in the latest Sunday Times Rich List. - Reuters
