The SABC GCEO and Head of News were suspended this week

The Communications Workers Union (CWU) says it believes the current events at the SABC have led to a stall in negotiations for workers' annual increases. Two of the corporation's top executives, Group CEO, Dali Mpofu and the Chief Executive of News and Current Affairs, Snuki Zikalala were both suspended this week.
The union's president, Joe Chauke, says they have given the SABC two days to indicate what is happening with negotiations or face strike action. "During the course of this year we started negotiations with the SABC in February. In the middle of those negotiations the SABC team said to us we are now going to stop negotiations" says Chauke.
Chauke says it seems that the SABC does not even have a plan in terms of negotiations with workers for this year. "We are going to try further means for the SABC to come back to the table. If they do not, there's no alternative really as workers except to protest," says Chauke.
