Bus and waste management services have been disrupted in Tshwane as hundreds of council workers, who are Samwu members, have embarked on a strike.
Some school children were stranded after a number of school bus drivers also joined the two-day strike. Parts of the inner-city were strewn with rubbish after Samwu members overturned dustbins yesterday.
The union is demanding that labour brokers who act as middlemen when hiring council employees at a higher fee, be removed. Tshwane Metro Council and striking Samwu workers are expected to continue meeting today after the two failed to reach an agreement yesterday.
Samwu has vowed to continue with its strike action.
