The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) and other independent trade unions in the Western Cape are expected to announce plans for further strike action in Cape Town today. Earlier, Cosatu chastised the Western Cape government for what they called its refusal to work with the unions to resolve difficulties that have arisen from the public sector strike.
Cosatu has blamed them for what they called the victimisation of public sector workers, in their actions of deducting salaries and dismissing workers.
The labour federation has also cited what it calls the province's failure to put an education recovery plan in place as one of the reasons for the intended strike.
