Economists predict higher salary increases

May 08, 2008, 15:30

Salaries should increase on average by about 11.8% this year. Economist Mike Schussler said in an employment report that higher inflation makes for high salary increases.

Last year, the average wage increase was 9%. Schussler says the average big company salary stands at R13 500. Referring to factors which determine earning capacity, Schussler said education still remains at the top.

Race remains the second most significant determinant of earning capacity, and white workers on average still earn five times more than black workers.
