Directors of companies could face criminal charges if their companies are guilty of price-fixing or other anti-competitive behaviour. That is in terms of the Competition Amendment Bill, which has just been approved by Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Trade and Industry.
Until now, competition law has allowed for competition authorities to impose penalties on firms who abuse monopoly situations or collude in price fixing.
The National Economic Development and Labour Council broadly agrees with government on the need to update competition law.
