Negotiations between PetroSA and Qatar Petroleum are underway in Doha to finalise a multi-billion rand deal that will see Qatar supplying liquefied natural gas to South Africa. The Gulf state of Qatar is on target to become the world's largest gas producer and exporter with production capacity of 30 million tons a year.
Minerals and Energy Minister, Buyelwa Sonjica, says as South Africa struggles to meet its growing energy demands - government is looking to countries like Qatar for strong partnership.
Meanwhile, President Thabo Mbeki is expected to meet with the Qatari captains of Industry later this morning - among them executives from the Qatar Investment Authority that manage a $60 billion fund for the state.
