SA Bread price to go up by 45 cents

Consumers should brace themselves for a hefty hike in the price of bread. Its been reported that Albany bakery increased its bread price by 45c on Monday and that competing producers will soon follow suit.

Steve Mallach, Blue Ribbon's corporate affairs manager, is quoted as saying an increase is in the pipeline.

Sasko Duens also indicated that a price hike may come into effect early next month.
The increase is due to a dramatic jump in wheat costs.
