Numsa lobbies support for wage offer acceptance

July 12, 2007, 11:45

The National Union of Metal Workers of SA (NUMSA) is canvassing its members on the new wage offer put forward by employers in the metal and engineering sector. The employers have offered a 9% increase for workers in the bottom grade this year, and 8% for artisans.

The agreement includes increments of between 7% and 8% for the following two years. Silumko Nondwango, the Numsa spokesperson, says they have recommended that their members accept the offer, but will wait for feedback.

Solidarity, another union, signed the offer yesterday.
