Hydrogen
Mario Pelser - Sunday 02 March 2008

It does not make sense to see Eskom talking about all the different methods they are looking at for solving the power crisis in our country, and not once talk about hydrogen. If people do some digging, for example on the internet, they will see what a great solution to our problems, this could be. Hydrogen is the most effective fuel you can find. Most available material in the universe, and easy to incorporate. We only hear how expensive it will be to install such a system, but do not hear how effective it will be on the long run. For example; You can install a system in your car, petrol or diesel, bringing your fuel consumption down with, between 20% to 50%. Now, just imagine the effects on our country, and the environment, especially when we all know where we are heading with global warming. People need to be educated in this regard. Eskom talks about the cost of installing such a system, when I can clearly see other agendas involved, like politics. We have an abundant endless supply in sea water for example. I am not even a scientist and know for a fact, sea water, because of the salt content, is even more effective for extracting hydrogen. The argument goes, to extract hydrogen, you need to use electricity and the cost would be to high. Now my question is then, why not use the waves to develop the electricity for the hydrogen plant? We already have the technology. The advantage for using hydrogen outweighs all other methods of energy production systems. Why, because the waste you get from such a plant, like with your car, is water and oxygen. Just what we need to fight global warming. I do not see the problem for doing this. But I do understand very clearly why they do not look at such solutions. Politics and large oil companies would loose billions of dollars. They keep the public uneducated to make more money, that’s it! The solutions are there, but they choose not to use them for personal gain! Well...Just a thought.
