Relatives of the Kenya crash victims at the OR Tambo Airport
|
May 17, 2007, 18:00
Relatives of seven South Africans who perished on the Kenya Airways flight KQ 507 touched down at the OR Tambo International Airport today. Several journeyed to Cameroon to provide DNA samples and visit the crash site.
They all share a common grief - the loss of a loved one. In the past few days they have been a pillar of support for each other. But the reality of their loss is still too difficult. Today, they are back at home after an emotionally taxing journey.
There are still so many unanswered questions surrounding the happenings of May 5 – the day of the fatal crash. None of the family members wanted to talk to SABC News about their journey to Cameroon.
Twelve days ago, the Kenyan airliner perished with 114 passengers and crew on board. It is believed the plane took off in stormy weather and soon disappeared off the radar screens. Two days after its disappearance, search teams stumbled upon the wreckage a few kilometres from the runway.
