President Mbeki is off to Zimbabwe for further talks tomorrow

August 08, 2008, 12:45

The Department of Foreign Affairs says mediator President Thabo Mbeki will visit Zimbabwe tomorrow for further talks with President Robert Mugabe and opposition leader, Morgan Tsvangirai. Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Ronnie Mamoepa would not divulge details on Mbeki's planned trip nor on the discussions with the two leaders.

The meeting comes amid reports that the Southern African Development Community (SADC) mandated talks aimed at finding a settlement to Zimbabwe's political crisis, are nearing a positive end. A senior source in the ruling Zanu-PF earlier told SABC news that the outcome of the talks will be good for all parties involved.

Reports that talks aimed at finding a settlement to Zimbabwe's political crisis are nearing a positive end have evoked hope across the country. Many expect major developments in the dialogue process over the weekend.
