De Lille questions cancelled Zimbabwe meeting

May 08, 2008, 19:15

Independent Democrats (ID) leader Patricia de Lille has called on National Assembly Foreign Affairs Committee chair Job Sithole to provide reasons for the sudden cancellation of a scheduled meeting on Zimbabwe.

She says the cancellation of tomorrow's meeting, at which the committee was to be briefed on the crisis in Zimbabwe by both the MDC and Zanu-PF, is "highly suspicious." She says it is absolutely crucial that a solution be found to the Zimbabwean election impasse.

De Lille says she intends to investigate whether the executive has interfered in the workings of Parliament.
