The General Agriculture and Plantation Workers Union of Zimbabwe says about 40 000 farm workers have been displaced in Zimbabwe as a result of recent farm invasions.
Farm invasions have reportedly resumed since the March 29 elections in Zimbabwe. The union says violence is being used to punish farm workers for voting for the Movement for Democratic Change. The report is being presented at a media briefing in Johannesburg today.
Zimbabwe is locked in a tense standoff as President Robert Mugabe's government has not released the result of the March 29 election and opposition leaders, who claim victory, accuse him of trying to rig the outcome.
