The ANC wants the MDC, to participate in the coming run-off elections for president
|
May 06, 2008, 18:30
The African National Congress (ANC) has called on the leadership of Zimbabwe’s main opposition party, the MDC, to participate in the coming run-off elections for president.
It also acknowledged the mediation role by President Thabo Mbeki. The party says President Mbeki's mediation brought Zimbabweans to agree on a number of issues, which made the elections possible.
The ANC says, even though it is concerned about the current situation, it was up to the MDC to participate.
Meanwhile, the Pan African Parliament (PAP) has condemned African leaders who refuse to relinquish power and in the process fail to respect their own constitutions.
