China has denied reports that arms aboard this ship made it into Zimbabwe
|
April 26, 2008, 10:15
Angola's state news agency has reported that the Chinese ship will be allowed to dock in Angola - but not to unload the weapons. Angola Press reports that the ship may only unload merchandise destined for Angola.
The vessel is carrying arms destined for Zimbabwe.
The United Nations (UN) Security Council is to hold its first session on the post electoral crisis in Zimbabwe on Tuesday next week - and South Africa will not oppose it. This meeting comes after Britain asked for information on the nature and extent of the Zimbabwean crisis, as well as its implications to peace and security.
It's almost four weeks now since the Zimbabweans went to the polls but results of the presidential election have not yet been released.
South Africa has been accused of blocking Zimbabwe to be hauled to the council for alleged human rights violations. South Africa's Ambassador to the UN, Dumisani Kumalo, says it's unclear what value it would add to involve the UN Security Council.
