Zimbabwe's Morgan Tsvangirai changes tune
|
April 17, 2008, 17:15
Zimbabwe's opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai has abandoned his policy of "no witch hunts", should he come to power. He wants President Robert Mugabe to face the arm of justice for his government's abuses against Zimbabweans.
Meanwhile, Tsvangirai today called for President Thabo Mbeki to be removed as a mediator in the country's crisis.
"President Mbeki needs to be relieved of his duty," Tsvangirai told a news conference in Johannesburg, adding that Mugabe had "unleashed an orgy of violence against the people".
Mbeki last year led a mediation mission by the Southern African Development Community and stands accused of down-playing the gravity of a deadlock following an election on March 29. - Additional reporting by Reuters
