The Harare High Court has dismissed the applications made by the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) against the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.
Yesterday, The MDC made an urgent court application asking for four polling agents per candidate at voting stations, the availability of an electronic copy of the voters' roll and of the postal votes. They also took issue with results being released at the national command centre.
Judge Tendayi Uchena dismissed all applications and said the MDC could gain access to the voters' roll if they provided proof of payment. The judge said that the MDC had made these applications in ignorance.
When the MDC made the application they were not aware they would be invited to the national command centre or that the results would be posted at voting stations as well as being announced at the centre.
In addition, with regard to the postal votes, according to the Electoral Act, information on the postal ballot is public knowledge. The MDC say they are happy with the outcome of their application.
Zimbabwe is expected to hold its general election on Saturday.
