South Africa, Botswana and Namibia have geared up for regional co-operation in tourism

South Africa, Botswana and Namibia have geared up for regional co-operation in tourism. The countries' presidents jointly opened the Mata Mata Tourist Access Facility in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. The facility is located on the South Africa and Namibia border.
Travelling in the area has been made a whole lot easier. In the past, tourists had to leave the park, and go to a normal border post to cross to the other side. Now they can take the short route via Mata Mata.
Namibia's president says this initiative is long overdue. "The opening of this entry point represents an important step towards removal of barriers and ensuring free movement of people,” said Hifikipunye Pohamba, the Namibian president.
"This illustrates positives co-operation between African states,” said Festus Mogae, the Botswana president.
South Africa's neighbours want 2010 visitors to travel in the region without facing long queues and unnecessary detours.
