South Africa is to assess the situation in cyclone-hit Mozambique with a view to assisting that country. Sydney Mufamadi, the minister for provincial and local government responsible for disaster management, will lead a high level delegation to that country today to determine the nature and support required.
Mufamadi's trip comes in the aftermath of tropical cyclone Favio, which struck parts of Southern Mozambique yesterday.
Mufamadi will be accompanied by Lindiwe Hendricks, the minister of water affairs and forestry and Aziz Pahad, the deputy minister of foreign affairs.
The delegation will also visit the affected areas.
