More people from the east African region will be turning to aid agencies for food aid. This comes as the prices of staple foods continue to rise. The World Food Programme (WFP) is warning that food riots might occur in the region as witnessed in many countries in the World.
The sky rocketing food prices could be the latest threat to world peace. They may have not sparked food riots in the east African region as yet, but the forecast is grim.
WPF officials have seen an increase in the number of mouths they have to feed, especially the poor from emerging economies like China and India.
The chairperson of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa, Kofi Annan, has said that African governments should focus on agriculture and come up with policies which are supportive of rural development.
At the moment there has been no word from east African governments on how they plan to deal with the possible food crisis.
