Kenya's disputed elections to be investigated

March 20, 2008, 18:00

The commission of enquiry into Kenya's disputed elections has promised to get to the bottom of events that led to the political crisis in the country.

Committee chairman South African, Judge Johan Kriegler, says Kenya's election crisis is not unique and will therefore offer useful solutions for the continent. Kriegler was speaking after taking oath of office in Nairobi.

The committee will spend the next few days perusing through various electoral material before summoning members of the Kenyan Electoral Commission for evidence.

Kenyans from all walks of life will be allowed to appear before the commission, either in public or in camera. The commission is expected to present its report to a panel headed by mediator Kofi Annan.
