South Africa and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at paving the way for infrastructure development in the DRC.
The agreement was signed in Pretoria today by Public Works Minister Thoko Didiza and the DRC's Ambassador to South Africa Bene Mpoko.
Mpoko says nothing has been built in the DRC for the past four decades and the new Government under the leadership of Joseph Kabila has indicated that infrastructure development is the country's number one priority.
Mpoko says in order to get infrastructure development going, skills are needed.
He says South Africa is currently going through a boom in the construction sector, and the Government says the agreement will help.
Among the projects envisaged is the upgrading of Kinshasa Airport, Hospitals and the development of roads and rural areas.
